They have to learn not to be manipulated by the media, to be able to make a distinction between the reality and manipulation. The aim of transnationality is to learn from each other and experience situations that are unique for a place. Media is something that affects everyone. Teenagers also get informed regularly from some means of the media, either written or electronic. There is a trend toward using more electronic media as it is faster and easier, especially for the younger generations. Each means of mass media has its positive and negative effects- they are good sources of information flow, education and entertainment, though they can be unreliable, intimidating or misleading as well. That’s how the need to educate our students in this particular field came up. This is a universal topic, so by comparing the situation in five different countries students can draw their own conclusions, become more aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the media. By raising student awareness of both the positive and negative aspects of the media, we hope to make them more careful readers and listeners. Thus, they can avoid being manipulated if they double check the truthfulness of the news. It would be important to start to understand this issue and take action at an early age, when children are still sensitive and open to such questions. This work must be started at school but the schools’ curricula do not deal with it in formal education. So non-formal methods should be used to make pupils more aware of these issues. To become aware of the traps and misleading conceptions of the media the only way is educating youngsters and raising their awareness.
